Although our web site is new, we've been hosting visitors for over a century now.  Ever since our great grandparents homesteaded our valley in 1888, folks have been dropping by, and many have chosen to stay with us awhile to enjoy this unique piece of the San Diego backcountry.

Please take a moment to view our accommodations via
the page links at left.

At an elevation of 5500 feet our 60 acre environment contains a unique blend of cool forest and rich meadow - with some of the best drinking water to be found anywhere.
As a private resort, we provide a quiet and safe family oriented back country destination.

And Way Back in the Good Old Days...

Bailey's Palomar Resort around 1925

Beginning in the late 1880s, and for the next six decades, Bailey's was the center of the Palomar Mountain community. By 1910 Bailey's had become a popular destination - when automobile travel was new, adventurous and always a challenge.

Bailey's General Store & Post Office was built around 1900 and now serves as our private museum and gallery.

We continue to use The Dance Hall (shown here on the right) for our Weddings, Special Events and Social Functions.

Our campground was first known as "Campo Contento."   In those days the tents were in place all summer long and included wood floors, two beds, a dresser, chairs and a table, and of course the requisite  kerosene lamp.

Each tent contained it's own ice box which was maintained daily by the helpful and courteous resort staff.

These days the camping is still great, but be sure to bring your own tent.

Please check out the "Camping" page for a look-see.

And no back country resort of the last century was complete without those rustic and wonderful vacation Rental Cabins.

Always popular, our modernized but still charming cabins are now available year round.

Please see our "Cabins" page for details.

And The Bailey House has evolved as well.  With the addition of the six upstairs bedrooms around 1910, our original adobe homestead became the The Palomar Mountain Hotel. The "new" hotel can be seen in the old photo at right, behind Dr. Bailey's three-seater Cadillac, which sports the signage "Palomar Hotel Stage" on the hood.

Recently restored, the seven bedrooms in The Bailey House still maintain their old hotel look and feel - including the original room number on each bedroom door.  The rooms are furnished in vintage 1920s style, reflecting the golden years at Bailey's.

Now this wonderful building is available as a
Grand Vacation Rental Home.

Please see "The Hotel" page for a room by room tour.
