Standing
today much as it did a century ago, Bailey's General Store and
Post Office was the center of the Palomar Mountain community for over six
decades.
Called "Nellie" when built by the
Baileys in early 1898,
it housed Palomar's local post office and a small mercantile.
Today it's our private museum and newly opened General
Store. The look and feel is remarkably similar to when it last saw customers -
back when "Ike" was president.
We've
got antiques from the old resort and ranch days - some for view and some for
sale.
Plus we've got new collectables and antiques coming in
all the time.

Handmade
Fireplace Bellows
A must for any hearth and home, this is the "real McCoy" made by
Old Man Bailey himself.
It's constructed of a rough split-wood sandwich rimmed with supple leather, sports a soldiered copper snout and leather hanging strap. It's been
in use for years, and will continue to be serviceable for many decades to come.
Sorry, the bellows are temporaraly out of stock (we
sold them all).

Great-Grandma's Bread Maker
The amazing thing about some of these retired kitchen appliances is the
expression folks get when imaging the device in use. It was
better than hand-kneading the dough, but not quite as convenient as
the new fangled electric models now in vogue.
This one has a forked "agitator" attached to the handle and a tabletop clamp to keep the thing in place while you roll around the dough with both
hands (and someone else sits on the table to hold it down).

Uncle Newt's Woodpeckers
Most mountain residences have an opinion on our little winged friends, the
red-headed woodpecker. Newt Bailey's response was to create a unique
"seen-and-not-heard" verity to enliven the home or garden.
These life sized, hand carved and painted wooden birds are mounted on genuine
"pecker-wood" tree sections, some actually imbedded with acorns from
their more animate brethren. We've got a collection of these special
folk-art pieces, but the supply is limited.

Spittoon
Yes, there was a time in the not too distant past where no public
establishment would risk being without an assortment of these beauties close at
hand.
Although long out of favor in polite company, these floor bound brass vials
remind us of a more colorful period. Appropriately worn, they look the
part either with their naturally acquired "matte" finish, or shinned
up to a golden luster.

Hand Tools That Built
The West
These are genuine and certified hard workin' hand tools that helped shape our
ranch up to a century ago. Each one has a unique weathered and worn look
that bespeaks the rugged men and women who worked the land.
Part of the Bailey charm is the many well placed artifacts. Each could
have been (and most likely were) left here decades ago. Use them to
add that back country charm to your own garden.

O�Keefe & Merrit
Stove "Grillevator"
They don't make 'em like this anymore! Generations of friends remember
"grandma's stove" in the Bailey House, and this (4) burner with
built-in center griddle is the spittin' image.
With a built in grill temp gauge and side-by-side oven "Grillevator"
broiler, there's no "electronic brain" to loose it's mind. This
would be a wonderful addition to any real chef's kitchen.

Decorative Old Fashioned Room Heater
These lovely old things were horrible heaters, but make great decorative
devices today. They were originally used in the Bailey Hotel and
cabins. We have blue, brown, black and all glass
models.
They make good plant stands, end tables and yard ornaments. We've got a
few, but the supply is limited so get 'em while they're hot!
And a special note: Don't use as a heater!

Little Brown Jug - How I love
Thee!
Authentic ceramic "little brown jug" stands over a foot tall and
holds about a gallon.
We've seen them used as lamp bases, dried flower stands and many other
clever adaptations (some folks even drink from them).
This one needs a good home - $25
